Effective 1:1 Integration
1:1 technology integration has become the new hit educational strategy the past 5 years. PTO's and school boards around the nation have recognized the importance of bringing technology into the classroom. Most of the time they have funded the implementation of devices and assumed teachers knew what to do with them. However, most teachers were never taught how to use these devices effectively, to enhance student learning. Technology cannot replace a highly trained teacher. However, it can enhance their lessons, and increase student engagement, resulting in increased student learning. I graduated from college in 2008, and I was astonished when I entered the teaching field the next fall, that I wasn't adequately prepared to utilize the educational technology tools that were coming available in my first year of teaching. This is exactly why I pursued my master's degree in educational technology. I wanted to help myself, as well as fellow teachers in making sure that we were using our resources to the maximum benefit of our students. Technology cannot just be used as a reward for when students finish their other work early. It cannot just be a babysitter at a station to keep students focused while you work with a small group. Technology has a great power in the classroom and I want to help you maximize that power. There are so many devices, apps, websites, and programs available, how can you know what will be the best fit for you and your students? Let me do the background work and train you to utilize your 1:1 technology effectively.

What is a flipped Classroom?

I have utilized both blended and flipped classroom strategies in my classrooms with great success. Creating a blended classroom is a great option for teachers of younger ages who might not have access to technology at home. It looks at how technology can be best utilized to enhance student learning and teacher efficiency. Flipped lesson creation is perfect for classrooms with older students, who need more support in applying the standards such as a math class. I love to work with teachers to help them discover what methods are best for their classroom and their teaching style.
Digitalize your PLC
Professional Learning Communities are at the heart of an effective teaching team. Teamwork is essential to get students to achieve the goals we have placed before them. In my experience, it was always a challenge to keep everyone on the same page with our PLC team until we digitalized our process. Bringing each piece of the PLC process from the assessment, to the data and meeting notes, to the intervention plans, online was essential in our team melding together. A digitalized PLC kept us transparent and allowed all interventionists to see where each child is performing and where the team is headed next.
Think about what happens when one team member leaves the team, where does their hard work go? Does it leave with them or is it accessible for their replacement? To truly improve year after year as a team, a viable curriculum is key. How can we improve from last year, if we don't remember what we did or what worked last year? When I stepped away to pursue new adventures, my hard work was not lost, but instead was improved upon by my replacement.
Digitalizing your PLC can be a massive mountain to climb, but I promise it is worth the hard work, and I would love to help you reach the summit!
